Sculptor Artur Durgaryan from childhood imbued with love for the fabulous world of graphics. On the way to success in three-dimensional sculptural performances, Durgaryan smoothly moves to two-dimensional performances and creates pictorial and graphic fictions with his own sensual perception of the world and life. In the field of graphics, the sculptor-painter often turns to simple material planes and picturesque colors. According to the author’s definition, the simple paper basis of the image, the combination of drawing ink and acrylic are means close to his soul, thanks to which he is able to express himself in this field and, as an artist with modern features, convey to the world the inner feelings hidden in the depths of his consciousness.
Arthur Durgaryan, in his works, pays great attention to the embodiment of female images. In his works, the woman is at the center of various imaginary and emotional situations. The unique and original fictional elements and color combinations of the image also contribute to the perception of female characters. Quite remarkable is the multiple combination of male images with female figures, and especially the image of a rhinos, as an animal reflection of the idea of masculinity as opposed to femininity, and in a sense, sexuality. In some compositions, with a unique creative power, the active participation of the artist’s alter ego in some thematic concepts is also manifested. Turning to the themes of man and the environment, the author expresses universal feelings and values in the language of art.
Entering this area of the turbulent world of fine art, the artist does not follow the established rules of the aesthetics of historically accepted “isms”. In Durgaryan’s paintings, perhaps through color and line, the author’s feelings, figurative experiences, and unique ideas about beauty are formed. Using simple aesthetic means of expression, the artist tries to embody in the material the harmonious coexistence of man in the environment, as well as man-nature. The artist creates characters with an excellent command of the philosophy of the “live” line. Clean and clear lines acquire plastic and virtuoso expressiveness in his performance. Aesthetic ideas of a person, the world and self-consciousness and their own ideas about the harmony of forms make an effective impression on the viewer and convey the philosophical formulations born in the mind of the author. In his creative world, the author is in dialogue with himself, often allowing the viewer to become a participant in this dialogue. When looking at Arthur Durgaryan’s compositions, it becomes obvious that in a two-dimensional creative environment, only simple combinations of linear forms and the absence of color can convey a mixture of spiritual and sensual, where color is perceived internally and in a peculiar way.
In the graphic works of Arthur Durgaryan, as well as in the representations of the masters of sculpture, the leading place is occupied by volumetric incarnations. Along with all this, the works are made with a graphic sound, in which the author’s color preference is often given to black and white, in combination with which red, with its effective influence, becomes the main fictional guarantee of the linear world, conveying the vibrations of intense feelings and passion hidden in the composition behind account of color expressiveness.
In his graphic works, the author prefers certain elements of the metaphysical or surreal world, which seem unreal, but at the same time exist in the substrate of the human soul and in the subconscious. Artistic forms are generalized transformations of various situations in the human soul, performed by the artist. The source of inspiration for the creation of such fictions are archetypal ideas, ancient images, human states, aesthetic views born from historical depths, modern areas of art, which, mixed with today’s worldviews, are rethought in the author’s ideas. Arthur Durgaryan’s entry into the field of painting, manifested in the aesthetic search and indisputable skill of the artist, finds its expression in the original handwritten solutions. The works of Artur Durgaryan are difficult to characterize with special concepts of any direction of fine art because these works, with their stylistic originality, live only in their own special artistic-imaginary world. Artur Durgaryan as an artist is a bearer of new and original thinking, he does not follow the beaten paths of art. At first glance, the structure of its unique graphic forms is simple, but with a very complex solution, it is the result of the ideological impulses of the spiritual freedom of modernity. The inner creative power of the author extends to the characters he created, conveying to the viewer the artist’s inner connection with these images. The artist’s skillful brush passionately follows life’s troubles, the relationship between a man and a woman, and the development of an imaginary world that lives outside the patterns of everyday life. Artur Durgaryan enriches Armenian painting with pictorial techniques and mystical, somewhat surrealistic styles.
